Guitarist Jay Maas (Defeater) has also produced countless records for other bands at Getaway Recordings in Massachusetts, including Bane, Counterparts, Title Fight and more. After being behind the scenes on so many quintessential records, Maas is back at the helm. “Having produced records for two decades now I've had the chance to work with thousands of artists, I’m grateful that this was my opportunity to pull together some of my favorite people who also happen to be extremely talented musicians.”  
 
Maas tapped fellow founding member of Defeater, Andrew Reitz, to play drums along with guitarist Matthew Spence and fellow engineer and bassist Dave Alcan. The result is high-octane instrumentation paired with the poignant yet biting lyrics and vocals of Quinn Murphy (VERSE). 

The debut LP’s first single “Misanthropic Holiday or Vacation” sounds like both warning and indictment, exploring ways we are expected to deal with the human condition in modern society. It seems to blur the lines of perseverance and begrudged surrender, crescendoing into a cathartic release that makes one feel both possessed and furious. It’s hard to stay sitting by the end of it. 

There’s a notable freedom in the band’s songwriting, and their desire to push the limits of where heartfelt, emotive and heavy music can go is apparent with every note and word. The debut 10-song LP, True to You, from post-hardcore Long Island, NY-based HEAVYHEX came out on Bridge Nine Records May 3. The five-piece comprised of vocalist Dave Gastiaburo, guitarist/vocalist Danny Lukach, bassist/vocalist Cody Hermann, guitarist Jeremy Gardiner, and drummer Michael DiLello, have crafted an incredibly earnest and passionate follow up to their EP, Stare, which was self-released in 2022. HEAVYHEX Announce Debut Album 'True To You' out May 3rd, Share Music Video for Title Track

Today, Long Island, NY based band HEAVYHEX announce their debut album, True To You, set for release May 3rd on Bridge Nine Records. The ten songs on the album dive deep into the realm of personal struggles, societal issues, and the demand for equality. Collaborating with producer Jay Maas (Love Letter, Defeater), the band channeled their collective energy and creativity to shape guitar tones that strike a balance of aggression, clarity and emotion, accompanied by fast and hard-hitting percussion. Having teased with early single “You Can’t Stay Here,” HEAVYHEX now unleash the title track “True To You.” The song builds off high-energy guitars and impassioned vocals with a raw edge before driving into lush melodies.

The video for the song was directed by Richie Duque, and on it vocalist Dave Gastiaburo comments: "The video closely follows the theme of the song. It’s about the importance of not folding to the pressure of your 9 to 5, while continuing to prioritize the things that you are passionate about. To stay true to yourself."

HEAVYHEX Release New Single, "You Can't Stay Here"

Since forming in 2021, HEAVYHEX have quickly gained a reputation for their ability to translate raw emotion into their music, blending melodic and post-hardcore. Today, the band shares new single “You Can’t Stay Here,” serving as a teaser for a new album recorded by Jay Maas out this Spring on Bridge Nine Records. The song bursts with an impactful vocal delivery and winding riffs before heading into an infectious hook. Lyrically, the track addresses how the unhoused are treated with little regard. Vocalist David Gastiaburo expands on the lyrics:

“You Cant Stay Here’ was written after NYC’s failed attempts to sweep homeless encampment sites. It was an ill attempt to force the homeless into shelters but it failed. Out of the 2,300 homeless people present during those sweeps, only 119 agreed to go to a shelter and most of them did not stay. Many were forced out with little time to take any of their belongings with them. These are people too, just like us, trying to get by.”

DYS 'Brotherhood' LP: 40th Anniversary Pressing

Originally released in 1983 as the fourth title on Boston's iconic X-CLAIM! record label, DYS is celebrating 40 years of Brotherhood with a special edition of their classic LP. This anniversary pressing compiles both sides of the album as well as their song "Wolfpack" onto a single-sided LP, with a screen-printed B-side. This edition is limited to 1,000 copies available from Bridge Nine in two colors: clear vinyl (300 pressed) and translucent red vinyl (700 pressed).

Maximum Rock N Roll called this album a "contagious masterpiece." A part of the original Boston Crew, alongside S.S. Decontrol and Negative FX, DYS and their Brotherhood album influenced generations of straight edge hardcore punk bands, the youth crew movement, and deserves a place in any true hardcore fan’s record collection.

Earlier this year, DYS announced a series of 40th anniversary shows to acknowledge this milestone. Those were unfortunately canceled due to vocalist Dave Smalley’s struggles with a serious medical issue. Those issues are unfortunately ongoing and have resulted in significant medical expenses. For that reason, proceeds from this special edition are being donated to Dave Smalley's medical fund.

Heavily influenced by Minor Threat, Negative Approach, SSD and early Black Flag, Stone and D’Graves share a rich musical history having played and toured together for over a decade in several New York-based bands (Antidote, The High & The Mighty, Drew Stone Hit Squad).

Incendiary Device’s self-titled release features 12 tracks that capture the energy and rage of NYHC with hook-laden songwriting sensibility, separating them from their peers. Thematically it focuses largely on the dichotomy between maintaining a youthful spirit at heart with the realities of being middle-aged in a technology-focused world. The album is self-produced, primarily by D’Graves and Stone with engineering by Brian DiMeglio at Found Soundation Studios in Brooklyn, NY, and mixing by Dan Korneff and Neal “Zum” Osteberg.

Incendiary Device has toured nationally and shared the stage with bands including Biohazard, Madball, Sheer Terror, and Gogol Bordello, and have announced a record release show on November 12th at Bowery Electric as part of the club’s long-running, free Sunday Matinee series.

NYHC band Incendiary Device announce self-titled debut album out November 10th

Today, Bridge Nine Records announces the release of New York band Incendiary Device debut album, Incendiary Device, due out November 10th. “Incendiary Device is about the toxic nature of social media. Lyrically it uses the analogy between a weapon of war and social media as a social weapon. An incendiary device on the battlefield is not a precision weapon, innocent bystanders in the blast range become victims. Social media has the same effect. People spew hateful rhetoric from their phones and computers and sometimes extremely kind and genuine individuals get caught in the blast range. This song was inspired by a specific incident where an innocuous friend of ours became one of those targets.”

About this collaboration:
Few punk bands have the history and influence held by hardcore veterans Stretch Arm Strong. Formed in early 1992 in Columbia, South Carolina, Stretch Arm Strong perfectly executes a style of Hardcore Punk that few other bands have been able master as well as them. The band embodies a style of Melodic Hardcore, but seamlessly incorporates elements of pop-punk and heavy breakdowns. Their style appealed to fans of all punk sub-genres, allowing them to remain an important band in our scene until this day.

Guitarist Brian Kemsley (Outbreak) and drummer James Philips (Sea Haven, Final Fight) wrote six songs in November 2021 before recruiting bassist Cornell Ward and vocalist Chad Leddy to record their EP last summer.

Adam Yoe of No Echo described the opening track as “… a blazer that makes its bones somewhere in the midpoint between late '80s NYHC and early ‘oughts Boston. The clean production doesn’t skimp on rawness or urgency, which lends it a vibrant and decidedly current vibe.”

Since the initial release of their EP, they have performed and made a name for themselves across the American northeast, as well as southeast Asia. Keep your eye out for more music to come!
